RC&D IS: People Helping People! Resource Conservation and Development better known as RC&D is a unique program. It helps people care for and protect their natural resources in a way that will improve the area’s economy, environment, and living standards.
RC&D gets people involved to identify and solve human, economic, and environmental problems in their communities. RC&D addresses local problems by obtaining assistance from the private sector, corporations, foundations, and all levels of government.
RC&D councils are comprised of local citizens. They represent farmers, businesses, and units of government to coordinate economic development projects primarily in rural areas.
RC&D areas are multi-county in scope. Sponsoring organizations may include county and city governments, soil and water conservation districts, towns, water districts, planning district commissions and other nonprofit groups.
RC&D councils are nonprofit corporations that have authority to seek help from sources qualified to provide financial assistance. This help may be technical or assistance from government agencies, private industry, grants and foundations.
RC&D is authorized by the Agriculture and Food Act of 1981, Pub. Law 97-97, 16 U.S.C. 345-3461 as amended by Pub. Law 101-624, section 1452. The USDA Soil Conservation Service, an agency known for its partnerships with local communities, administers the local program. |
